Perfume has an ancient and fascinating history - aromatic plant derivatives were used by our ancestors to entice members of the opposite sex, ward off the Plague, enhance meditation and honour the dead. In the past, these substances were completely natural; today, for many reasons (mainly cost), most perfumes are composed of synthetic compounds derived from petrochemicals.

Dragonfly composes her blends using only pure essential oils of the highest quality; our clients report that wearing our 'perfume with a purpose' has none of the negative effects of wearing synthetic perfume.

for BODY, BATH & MASSAGE

 

We begin with our own carefully blended base oil:  an exceptional synergy of pure plant oils, each selected for its skin-supporting properties, very light to naturally penetrate the skin without synthetic enhancers. 

• Natural Kukui oil, used for centuries by Hawai'ians to protect and heal skin exposed to harsh sun, salt water & wind; modern research shows that this light oil ranks among the most highly polyunsaturated fats available in nature; it provides essential linoleic and linolenic fatty acids, vitamins A, E and F.

• Organic Alberta hemp seed oil, organic rose hip, jojoba, apricot, carrot root, evening primrose oil, grapeseed oil, pumpkin seed oil and pure, non-synthetic Vitamin E.

• Calendula and St. John's Wort  flowers are harvested from our organic & certified organic gardens through their long summer growing season here in Cowichan; the flowers are carefully dried, then pulverised and laid in sunflower oil to either sun or dark infuse for (usually) two years. We know they're ready when the base oil has absorbed the beta-carotenes and hypericum (etc.) from the plants by their brilliant, jewel-like colours - gorgeous! - and that's part of the magic - doing things the proper OLD way!

• Top quality essential oils carefully selected & blended for their therapeutic properties at a gentle 5 - 7 % concentration.

• Suitable for face & body care; use in the bath, after showering/bathing, for massage.

• Many of these blends echo our Tera•Par•Fume blends for multi-layer body & spirit therapy.

• Dragonfly Dreaming Body Oils do NOT contain almond, hazelnut, peanut, pecan or any other nut oils identified as potential allergens. We also don't use olive or wheatgerm oils due to their tendancy to go rancid.

• And, obviously, we do not use mineral oil - the base of most commercial bofy oils  - because we're opposed to using petrochemicals on the body. Likewise, we do not use animal oils such as emu oil, extracted from dead birds killed for their corneas (used for human transplants) because we are against animal abuse & testing.
